To Our Valued Patients,
After much deliberation, our practice is making an important change - Effective April 26, 2024, we will be opting out as a contracted provider in Delta Dental’s network. Over the last few years, it has become increasingly difficult to practice as in-network providers and continue to provide the high quality of care that we value and promise to our patients. We are unwilling to compromise our standard of excellence by cutting corners to conform to the restrictions that dental insurance plans place on their in-network providers. We have reached a point where we cannot offer the same high quality dentistry we value under their contracts. So, rather than lower the high standards that we have maintained since we have opened, we have chosen to eliminate our preferred status with Delta Dental. For more information, please head over to our FAQ.
What this means for you:
You can continue to be a patient in our practice, and we hope you do! We will still accept and bill your insurance as an out-of-network provider.
You will be responsible for payment for procedures at the time of service.
We will submit your dental insurance claims on your behalf, and Delta Dental will reimburse you the contracted fee amount directly within 7-10 business days.
To fully understand your specific dental plan’s benefits and reimbursements, we encourage you to reach out to your human resources department for details. We are here to help you in whatever capacity we can, but Delta Dental does not share out-of-network plan benefits with us.
Please know this was a difficult decision for our practice to make, as we know this will directly affect many of you, some who have been with our practice for a long time. We had hoped to have this conversation with you in person, but we wanted to give you the courtesy of knowing prior to your next appointment.
We hope that the care you have received from us and the partnership that we have built as advocates for your oral health will encourage you to continue with our practice. However, if you choose to seek care from a new dentist, please let us know and we will help with the transition.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our practice.
Thank you,
The Goldenberg Dentistry Team
Frequently Asked Questions
“Oh no! You are not accepting my insurance anymore?”
Don’t worry, we still accept your current Delta plan. We will continue to bill Delta for any appointments you may have, however, Delta will send their payment directly to you, so we ask that you pay your balance in full at the time of your visit.
“How will this affect my out of pocket costs?”
It’s difficult to say how this change will affect you personally as there are thousands of different Delta policies, and each plan offers different benefits and limitations that your employer negotiated. Most patients will see some increase in their total out-of-pocket costs. If there are any concerns about cost, we can always send a request for a pre-treatment estimate to your dental plan.
“So, what insurances are you in-network with?”
We are currently in-network with: Blue-cross/Blue-shield, Careington, Cigna, Connection Dental, Guardian, Humana, MetLife, Principal, United Concordia, and a handful of smaller dental PPO plans. Open enrollment is right around the corner, so if you receive subsidized benefits from your employer, speaking to your HR representative regarding other options may be beneficial to you. To our knowledge, Delta is the only dental insurance company that refuses to pay out-of-network doctors directly. Most other insurance companies will allow the dental practice to receive the insurance reimbursements so the patient does not have to pay the full cost at time of service.
“My {last dentist, specialist, child’s dentist} is also opting out. Why are so many dentists choosing to opt out of Delta Dental?”
We want to be as transparent about this change as possible. Our commitment to doing the best for our patients means that we use high quality, evidence-based dental materials and up-to-date technologies and partnerships with excellent dental labs. As insurance companies add more and more restrictions on what they will allow for their in-network providers, including lowering already low reimbursement rates while the costs of business and inflation have sky-rocketed in the post-covid landscape, we have reached a point where we cannot offer the same high-quality dentistry we value under their contracts. We are unwilling to compromise our standard of care - our patients, friends and family deserve better than that. So, we have chosen to eliminate our preferred status with Delta. Your health and wellbeing come first, and decisions about your health should be between you and your healthcare provider. We will always do our best to work within and maximize your dental benefits. It is our sincere hope that we have the honor of continuing to care for you for years to come.
